How does it work?
When I buy make a purchase, where does my money go?
We are NOT a Non-Profit organization, but we are trying to give money away, so we have put together this guideline to help people understand how the money is being dispersed.
- 10% Supplies (paint, custom built canvases for original artwork)
- 30% Prints/frame cost (this includes the packaging and product mailing costs)
- 15% Artists stipend (payment to artists)
- 5% Art show/event costs and payments (rented space, fees, etc)
- 10% Marketing costs (such as printed materials, web site, e-blasts/mailers)
- 30% Giving to approved charities
These percentages are approximate due to changing costs and fluctuating project needs.
Why are you advertising the amount of money you’re giving away?
Frankly we would rather just quietly give to these organizations. However, since we are speaking of “Giving Wings to the Needy,” and asking people to participate in helping others, we are faced with the responsibility to help the buyer of this art clearly understand what we are, and are not giving towards these organizations.
Wouldn't it be more effective to give my money directly to a Non-Profit organization?
Yes it would. We certainly would encourage giving to these organizations. However, our goal is to put art into people’s hands that they would buy anyway, while at the same time help the needy around us. The art will be a tangible reminder for those that see it, of both the help needed and given to those less fortunate.
Why isn't Monarch Artists a Non-Profit?
To become a Non-profit is a lengthy process. It can take up to 5 years to establish your Non-profit status. There are certainly benefits to becoming a non-profit entity, such as tax exclusions government grant eligibility, etc. Our decision to not be a non-profit entity has more to do with the amount of administration and management of such an organization. We would need to create a board of directors that meet regularly and follow a host of changing procedures to keep our Non-profit status. We believe in Non-Profits and admire them for all they do. There may be a time when we take this step. We also appreciate the stringent government requirements for Non-Profits that keep people from forming Non-Profits as a means to make money illegally. In our case, we want to keep the model simple; we paint, and we give a portion of the proceeds to charity.
How does Monarch Artists pick which organizations to give to?
The organizations we are giving to meet one or more of the following criteria:
- They have a proven track record of effectiveness and efficiency with their resources
- They are doing a vital work that without their efforts there would
be a huge void
- We have seen first-hand the love and compassion and we believe
in their work
- They recognize the value of a faith-based approach to meeting the needs around them
